Before I was kicked to the
curb at my Roadrunner gig (laid off Wednesday and get out by Friday... and
don't let the door hit you on your way out type of record label sendoff), I
decided that a 400 square foot studio was not the place to house your massive art
and reference book collection. I called David to come over and help build a
library above the TV area. Here's how that went:
We used the cable railing
system that I have on the deck so there was some indoor/outdoor integrity.
Now the books can get sent up to the Church and I can hand pick a small
collection to come with me to the West Village.
When I drew the simple design of the small staircase that went from the top of my bedroom loft stairs to the
library, David said that we had one left over thick beam that he thought he
could make a similar, although much steeper, version of that staircase to go up
to the steeple. I had been thinking about that steeple and what would work best
to get up into it. My first inclination was some sort of industrial pull down ladder but it's not very smart to
climb a ladder with a hot cup of coffee and an iPad. But stairs were tricky
because I didn't want to cut the light from the office loft window. It turned
out pretty well.
I'm glad I got the work
done when I did.
